We present here a computational analysis of fugues. We try to automatically analyze the structure of fugues. Our primary test set is the 24 fugues of the first book of Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier (WTC), BWV 846-893. It is a work-in-progress – some subjects (S) or counter-subjects (CS) are badly predicted, some episodes are missing. If you look for a complete musicological analysis of fugues, follow the links below each diagram to access S. Bruhn's or E. Prout's analysis.
On the following diagrams, the bottom part (soprano/alto/tenor/bass, and sequences) shows the output of our method. The top part (the truth lines) show a ground truth analysis, based on the analysis of S. Bruhn.
