This is a patch for Maxtor drives 541DX, serial starting with 2B0,
that are recognized as "Athena" when firmware fails (which seems to
append quite frequently ...). This patch was provided by Salvation HDD
Research Center.

When i applied this patch, i didnt know that Salvation indicated that
"it will lose the original data on the target HDD" : fortunately this
is not always the case ... at least for all files ...

A second thing (more annoying for me) is that it's now impossible
to find this "iso" file anywhere (only the floppy version is available).

Unfortunately for me at first, the repair step was locked after
checking table 3 ... (541DX with serial starting with 2B0 in "Safe
mode" connected on "IDE2").

I unplugged the disk power before the boot and plugged it just before
the test (dangerous) ... the patching proccess worked and then the
hard disk indentification was correct (no "Athena") but a strange
noise appeared after that : regular clicks ... drive seems to be
definitely dead :-(

When i disabled the "safe mode" jumpers, noise disapeared (in fact one
jumper was stolen from another drive, which was otherwise unusable)
and fortunately the drive booted almost normaly.

A good lesson for my mother that did not backup anything before
... (quick quick, backups !! backups !!)

---

End of the story : the drive definitely crashed 2 days after the
firmware patch (even a Seatools was unable to correct billions of
errors ...). Fortunately, some backup was done "just" before :-)
